Alternate Game Modes For Small Server Numbers

Crazy idea... but I was thinking tonight about the possibility of having just one or two maps in alternate playing styles... so that if the server gets down to 2v2 or 1v1 then they can have some options to keep playing? Something like like CTF-Joust. There's also a tiny figure eight DM map but I can't remember what it's called.

We have this on SoL, and it's generally a shitshow.



People have been playing for 20 years, but still are not familiar with this dropdown to change the game type. If we do this on omni, people will join, click map vote, and only see some CTF maps and think we switched to being a CTF server, not knowing they could change the game type.

I think it would be awesome, but don't think it would go over well with our players. They have this on MIAs. Most people think it's VCTF but they have ONS maps too.

Not a bad idea... and people can vote any gametype at the same time?
I wouldn't mind it, I mean wouldn't Face-CTF be fun (at least once?).

But many of our players show up for ONS and even then only specific maps...

If you want to try it you can edit UT2004.ini, under xVoting.xVotingHandler, copy/paste the current GameConfig line

You can find the GameClass names in the UT sources, Prefix is the map prefix. GameName is what shows up in the dropdown.

Yeah I think its under the RandomMap Handler, since I think that replaced the normal xVoting... I'd have to look at the .ini file to be sure.

I'd like to see if any of our players want alternative game modes... I wouldn't mind a couple of regular CTFs and perhaps some VCTFs.

Yeah I feel like CTF and VCTF could possibly go over well. Or weird stuff like Carball. Maybe this can slowly get explored bit by bit.

I'm against. Don’t kill our server. There's a lot of ctf, dm etc. servers. Go and play.
